Fieldline
A job management dashboard for a field service business running several crews across a region.
The business problem
A growing heating and plumbing firm schedules jobs on a whiteboard, tracks parts in a spreadsheet and invoices from a separate accounts package. Nobody can see at a glance which jobs are late, which are waiting on parts, or which are ready to invoice.
The proposed product
A web platform with a live job board, crew schedules, parts tracking and an invoicing hand-off to the accounts system. Engineers update jobs from their phones, and the office sees changes as they happen.
Key features
- Job board with filters
- Jobs by status, crew, area and date, with overdue and waiting-on-parts jobs surfaced first.
- Crew scheduling
- Drag jobs between crews and days, with travel areas shown so routes make sense.
- Parts and stock
- Parts are linked to jobs, and low stock is flagged before a job is booked.
- Accounts integration
- Completed jobs create draft invoices in the accounting system, ready for review.
Design decisions
- Office and field views
- Engineers get a simple phone view of today's jobs. The office gets the full board.
- Draft invoices, not automatic ones
- A person reviews each invoice before it's sent, keeping control where mistakes are costly.
Intended business benefit
One shared view of the work, less re-typing between systems, and invoices raised as soon as jobs are finished instead of at the end of the week.
This is a concept. It has not been built for or measured with a client.
